POWER SMART FOR SCHOOLS EARTH DAY CAMPAIGN CONTEST 2025
OFFICIAL CONTEST RULES
NO PURCHASE REQUIRED
1. CONTEST TERM:
British Columbia Hydro and Power Authority (“BC Hydro”) Earth Day Campaign Contest (the “Contest”) begins on April 1, 2025 at 8 a.m. Pacific Time (“PT”) and ends on May 9, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. PT (the “Contest Period”).
2. ELIGIBILITY:
The Contest is open to all currently certified K-12 teachers of the Province of British Columbia who have reached the age of at least nineteen (19) years at the time of entry and otherwise comply with these Official Contest Rules (the “Contest Rules”). Those who are not a currently certified teacher in the Province of British Columbia, or who misrepresent themselves as one, will be deemed ineligible for the Contest. Employees of BC Hydro, its affiliates, advertising and promotional agencies and the immediate family and household members of those persons are not eligible.
3. HOW TO ENTER:
NO PURCHASE REQUIRED. To be eligible for the “Power Smart for Schools Earth Day Campaign” Contest, complete the following steps during the Contest Period:
(a) Teachers who do not have an existing Power Smart for Schools (“PSFS”) account will create one on the PSFS website.
(b) Teachers will visit the Contest microsite on the Tradeable Bits platform.
(c) Teachers will be one of the first 500 to submit their information into a form. This information includes their name, email address, the school at which they teach, a delivery address, confirmation that they are a currently certified K-12 teacher in the Province of British Columbia, and confirmation that they will submit proof of completion for all four activities. Teachers will need to agree with these terms herein, including the Contest Rules, and acknowledges acceptance of the kit as awarded if eligible, and releases BC Hydro from any and all liability in connection with this Contest and the kit.
(d) Teachers will submit proof of completion (“Prize Draw Submission Entries”) for all four (4) activities to the links provided in their instruction booklets before the end of the Contest Period.
Anyone who carries out the steps described above and complies with these Contest Rules including but not limited to the eligibility requirements will be eligible to receive an Earth Day 2025 Campaign Contest kit, free of charge and related shipping costs. All Contest Prize Draw Submission Entries must be received by the end of the Contest Period. BC Hydro is not responsible for and accepts no liability for late, lost, misdirected, delayed, or incomplete entries.
Limit one (1) entry per person. Any person who enters more than the allowable number of entries into the Contest and/or uses multiple names or identities will be disqualified by BC Hydro.
4. CONTEST KITS:
There are two hundred free (200) kits available to teachers on a first come, first served basis during the Contest Period. Each kit contains: i) a poster map of BC and local region, an ii) assortment of custom sticker sheets, and iii) instruction overview booklet. Kit value: $40
The first 200 eligible teachers to submit a completed kit entry within the Contest Period will be notified via email from schools@bchydro.com when the kit is mailed out. Upon sending this email, BC Hydro will not be responsible for, and accepts no liability for, late, lost, misdirected, or delayed kit deliveries.
LIMIT ONE (1) KIT PER TEACHER. Kits are not transferable and must be accepted as awarded with no substitutions in cash or otherwise. BC Hydro reserves the right, in the event that any kit or any component of the kit cannot be awarded as described for any reason, to substitute another kit or component of a kit of equal or greater value, without liability. Kit contents are subject to any terms, conditions, and restrictions imposed by their issuer and/or manufacturer.
5. PRIZE:
There is one (1) grand prize available to be won at the end of the Contest Period consisting of one (1) $200 gift card to Dominoes, thirty (30) EarthBall Inflatable Globes, and a story featuring the class work in the Science World blog. Total al prize value $950.
6. PRIZE DRAW:
Within 14 days after the Contest Period has ended, one (1) contestant that has submitted proof of completion of all four activities at the links provided in the instruction booklet will be randomly selected to win the prize using a randomization tool at BC Hydro’s discretion. If the selected contestant is deemed ineligible, they will be disqualified and another contestant will be selected through the same process.
After the winner is selected and confirmed to be eligible, BC Hydro will make at least two (2) attempts before June 6, 2025 to contact the eligible winner by the email provided on the Contest Site. Winners will be required to sign a standard Declaration, Release and Waiver of Liability form, confirming compliance with these Contest rules and acceptance of the prize as offered and releasing BC Hydro from any and all liability relating to the Contest. If the eligible prize winner cannot be contacted by email, they will be disqualified, and a new winner will be selected by the same process.
7. PRIVACY:
BC Hydro will use any personal information provided with the Contest entry and fulfilment, including the entrants’ name, address, postal code, and email address for the purpose of administering the Contest as contemplated by these Contest Rules. BC Hydro collects and uses personal information and runs this Contest in furtherance of its conservation mandate under the Clean Energy Act (British Columbia) as amended or replaced from time to time and in accordance with the provisions of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (British Columbia).

8. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY:
By entering this Contest, all entrants agree to release, discharge and hold harmless BC Hydro and its partners, affiliates, advertising/promotional agencies, and their employees, officers, and directors representatives and assigns from any claims, losses and damages arising out of their participation in this Contest and the acceptance, possession, use, of misuse of any prize awarded hereunder.
BC Hydro and its employees, officers, directors, agents, contractors, representatives, affiliates, subsidiaries, independent judges or advertising/promotion agencies (collectively, the “Released Parties”) assume no responsibility whatsoever for delayed, failed, partial or garbled computer or fax transmission; technical failures of any kind, including, but not limited to lost, interrupted or unavailable network server, Internet Service Provider (ISP), website or other connections, availability or accessibility or miscommunications or failed computer satellite, telephone, fax or cable transmissions, line or technical failures or difficulties; the incorrect or inaccurate capture or failure to capture information whether caused by site users, tampering, hacking, or by an equipment or programming associated with or utilized in this Contest or other information; the failure to capture any such information; errors of any kind whether human, mechanical, electronic, network or otherwise arising out of or relating to this Contest; theft, loss, destruction or damage to entries, in whole or in part; or other factors beyond their reasonable control. Released Parties are not responsible for injury or damage to participants’ or to any other person’s computer related to or resulting from participating in this Contest or downloading materials to or from or use of the web site. Persons who tamper with or abuse any aspect of this Contest or website, as solely determined by BC Hydro will be disqualified.
CAUTION: ANY ATTEMPT BY ANY PERSON TO DELIBERATELY DAMAGE ANY WEB SITE OR UNDERMINE THE LEGITIMATE OPERATION OF THIS CONTEST IS A VIOLATION OF APPLICABLE CRIMINAL AND CIVIL LAW. SHOULD SUCH AN ATTEMPT BY MADE, BC HYDRO RESERVES THE RIGHT TO SEEK DAMAGES FROM ANY SUCH PERSON TO THE FULLEST EXTENT OF THE LAW.
9. RIGHT TO MODIFY OR TERMINATE:
BC Hydro reserves the right to withdraw, modify, or terminate any part of this Contest by publishing notice on schools.bchydro.com website if for any reason, including if the Contest is not capable of running as planned, including technical failure or corruption, computer virus, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud or any other cause beyond the control of BC Hydro which in the opinion of BC Hydro affects the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of this Contest.
10. GENERAL CONDITIONS:
By entering this Contest, entrants accept and agree to collection of their information, the bound by these Contest Rules and the decisions of BC Hydro, which shall be final and legally binding. BC Hydro reserves the immediate right to disqualify any entrant which it deems, in its sole discretion if the entrant: (a) is not in compliance with these Contest Rules, (b) tampers with the entry process, the Contest, or the website; or (c) is acting in an uncooperative, unsportsmanlike, disruptive, abusive, or threatening manner. No correspondence will be entered into BC Hydro with respect to the Contest expect with the selected entrants. The Contest is subject to the laws of the Province of British Columbia and all applicable federal and municipal laws. The sole jurisdiction to resolve any disputes concerning this Contest is the Province of British Columbia.
